Installing Google Analytics on your Shopify Store in 2022

November 13, 2019

Google Analytics is a great tool to analyze your traffic behavior. While Shopify includes an analytics section that is very helpful, Google Analytics offers data at an even more granular level.

1. Create a Google Analytics Account

First things first, we need you to set up a Google account if you don't already have one. If you use Gmail for your business you should already be set up with one but if not, you can click here.

2. Get your Tracking ID

Once you create the account, you'll use your website URL as your primary domain and you'll see Get Tracking ID. This is the ID that will tell Shopify and Google Analytics they're matched together.

3. Find the Analytics section in Shopify

Open your Shopify store homepage and section Online Store. A menu will appear and click Preferences.

Scroll down to the section that says Google Analytics and enter your account ID. This ID will start with UA-XXXXXXXXX-X. Select Save.

4. Enable Enhanced Ecommerce

Once you save, you'll see a checkbox that says "Use Enhanced Ecommerce." This will allow you to view your Ecommerce metrics within Google Analytics.

Shopify also has great documentation on Google Analytics and how to install it.
